Who Feels Love??
First...
So this song has been in my head a lot the last couple of days. And even though it was actually a single in the U.S., somehow I've never heard it before.... Anyway, when I first heard it (via this CD), I must admit it didn't make a massive impression.
The overall feeling I got while listening in my car was: A well-pleasant groove, a nice trippy production, and possibly bland/simplistic lyrics. But in the overall music-listeneing scheme, I heard it again and again. And with each time started getting into it more...
By the way, today I was scouring YouTube for versions, and found this interesting foreshadowing of the Beady Eye. And I also looked up "Who Feels Love?" on Wikipedia, and found a couple interesting comments:
NME said that the production "triumphs over any real sort of feeling... pure mock Mahahi spirituality that not even Liam can salvage from the realm of self-parody".
Irish musician Rob Smith said in an interview on Irish national television in December 2006 that this was the most under-rated song of all time and should be "praised for its genius".
This stark difference in opinion (and especially the words of Mr. Smith) led me to reconsider what I'd originally thought. And the more I think about it, the more I have to agree: This song *is* fucking brilliant. And it also sounds like something the Stone Roses might have come up with....
Anyway, basically I think the song is saying that actually feeling love in your life -- both for yourself and from others -- is the single best thing that can happen. And this really can solve (or help avoid) many problems. Because if everyone (i.e. the whole world) felt more love, then everyone would be happier and the world would be so much better off...
Anyway - nice one! Sorted :)
