monday night life
Well it's another chilled out monday evening here in greater St. Cloud. I love this evening, because it means John Drake is gonna be playing a mad wide variety of all-Minnesota music. It's inspiring to hear him compose his DJ sets - the songs flow together (or apart) so skillfully. Plus, it's just good fun :)
And tonight is actually the second monday in a row I've caught the show (at least nearly all the way through). I'm glad to report that he is playing from After the Fact (and has been for the last 3 weeks actually). I've heard him play "Time to Go" and "A Shoe Gazer" - both interesting and unexpected choices to me.
After that comes the show this blog is named for - Monday Night Live. That show features about 50 minutes of live music from a Minnesota band, recorded in KVSC's well-equipped studio. There's also a band interview about halfway through that lasts about 5-10 minutes (good questions tho...). Also the whole affair is filmed by SCS's UTVS for good measure. In any case, it's a really cool opportunity.
Now the funny thing about this (sorta) -- to me anyway -- is that I've actually been on this show before. It's always kind of a rush too (considering that the first time I was ever on camera -- in grade school -- I got kinda nervous and said: "my name is Jimmy Bjorklun from Minnesota, St. Cloud").
The first time was in early May of 1991, with the 2nd band I was ever in (Shaken Bozeman). I'd like to see that again right now - luckily it does exist on a VHS tape. And for that matter, I'd love to see a video from the first band I was in where I'm singing "You Ain't Nothin' but a Hound Dog" (in the St. Cloud Tech H.S winter talent show)...
Anyway, since then I've played MNL 2 times with Surahoolies, 1 time with Hoolies, and dos (2) with the (Stearns County) Pachanga Society. That last time, however, was around 2006 - so it's been almost 5 years now for me. So I'm really looking forward to doing it again now (twss) as part of this. It'll happen.
