First.

Hello, my name is Jim.  I was born in St. Cloud, MN, and lived there through college (except for a 6-month stay in Germany).  In the fall of 1991, I moved to Minneapolis after graduating SCSU.  I got a job in a photocopy store (Kinko's - when it was still independent), and began playing in a band called the Surahoolies.

This basically was the story through the '90s, although I moved back to Central Minnesota in 1997. In the year 2000 the Surahoolies took a long break, and shortly thereafter I took a very long break from making copies. Thus began a series of loose-fitting jobs, including newpaper writing, web design, and working in a music store.

In 2002 I joined a couple of new bands: the Stearns County Pachanga Society and a Neil Young cover band called "Powderfinger". Yet all this while I was also working on "my own" music....  Eventually an album was finished, and now it's (finally) ready to go!

So we'll see how it all develops -- but no matter what, I know that this is (at least) part of my life's work now. Anyway, I guess it's a very rough backstory for this 1st blog (which fittingly is also on my birthday :)
